How to make your vape coils last longer

Coils are the one part of vaping that wears out, and nothing is more annoying than a fresh coil tasting burnt within a day. The good news is that a few simple habits will get you far more life out of every one. Here is what we tell customers across the counter.

Prime it before you vape. When you fit a new coil, put a few drops of e-liquid straight onto the exposed cotton, click it together, fill the tank, then leave it standing for five to ten minutes. That soaks the wick through so the first puff is not scorching dry cotton. Skipping this one step is the most common reason a coil dies early.

Start gentle on the power. If your device lets you set the wattage, begin at the lower end of the coil’s range and work up to what you enjoy. Running a coil flat out from cold cooks it faster.

Mind your flavours. Dark, very sweet liquids, the custard, toffee and sweet-fruit sort, leave a sugary residue that gunks up a coil and turns it brown. They taste lovely, but they are hard on coils. Lighter, less sweet liquids keep a coil clean for longer, so if you are getting through coils quickly that is often the culprit.

Do not let it run dry. Vaping on a near-empty tank gives you a dry hit and a half-burnt wick. Keep it topped up above the coil holes and you will avoid the worst of it.

And take it steady. Long, gentle draws are kinder than fast chain-vaping, which does not give the wick time to re-soak between puffs.

Do all that and a coil that used to last a few days will often stretch to a week or two. If you are still burning through them, bring your kit in and we will take a look. It is usually an easy fix.
